Hastings and Bexhill Girls entertained Essex Barbarians on Sunday afternoon in an Area 3 Bowl fixture. England Women's rugby is divided into Areas and within these areas into tiers; the bowl is a second tier competition. Essex Barbarians is a combination of players from three clubs; Rochford, Thurrock and Eton Manor.
Playing an eleven aside game H&B were soon in their stride and Jasmine Otene- Henworth scored a fine try to put them in the lead.
The Barbarians equalised and then took the lead with a good team try. Their players supported each other well as they took some good strong tackles from the Hastings girls. After an evenly contested first half the score was 10-5 and both teams had played some good rugby showing skills in passing, tackling and mauling.
Essex Barbarians made several player changes at half time and scored two converted tries in the second period. Otene- Henworth replied with her second try of the day to make the final score 10-24. Captain Daisy Caffrey rallied her team well and there were good performances from Jessica Hills, Frankie Sollo and Holly Fitzgerald.
The H&B team manager Cinnamon McManus, the coaches and supporters were proud of their team's efforts in what was only their second home fixture and are looking forward to their next game on February 21st.
