Match Report Tunbridge Wells U14 V Hastings and Bexhill U14

This match was played on a bright dry, cold morning and over 5 x 12 minute periods. By the end of the first period, Hastings found themselves 19 – 0 down due to a combination of both skillful and fortunate interceptions by Tunbridge Wells. The change of end seemed to suit Hastings and a brilliantly timed interception by Hastings Number 7 Monty Wheeler led to their first try (19 – 5). However, this was followed up promptly by a Hastings lineout which resulted in a Tunbridge Wells try straight under the posts, leaving the score at the end of the second period at 26 – 5. The third period saw Tunbridge restart from left to right; Hastings were quick to the ball with some good running and passing through the team. A few minutes in, and a loose ball was advantageously collected by Tunbridge Wells, resulting in a comfortable try under the posts (33 – 5). Hastings response was positive and rapid, with a well worked try quickly secured moments from the restart and scored by Number 13 Rupert Sheppard (33 – 10). The fourth period of the match was a display of good handling and rucking from both teams. A Tunbridge scrum was stolen by Hastings with some lovely skill demonstrated by Will Roberts leading to a well fought and deserved try by Number 8 Louis Turpin. This was quickly followed however by another try by Tunbridge (40-15). The final period of the match saw a lively battle for possession. Hastings were awarded a penalty scrum, which was won and cleverly passed to 15 Ben, who clinically delivered to Kieran Burks, who comfortably scored a satisfying try under the posts (40-20). Hastings appeared to tire towards the end, Tunbridge took advantage and scored two quick tries in the last moments. Final score 54 – 20.
