Hastings & Bexhill U15s could hardly have asked for a better start to their season, producing an impressive all-round team performance to record a 41–0 victory over Heathfield.

From the opening exchanges, H&B imposed themselves on the contest. The forwards provided a powerful platform, consistently making ground and putting Heathfield under pressure, while the backs complemented that physicality with an equally committed defensive display and some excellent attacking rugby.

It was a performance built around the whole squad, with forwards and backs contributing at both ends of the pitch.

Jude got the scoring underway and opened the door for what would become an excellent afternoon of attacking rugby for the Blue & White. The forwards were soon making their presence felt on the scoreboard too. Oakley, Seth and Dexter all crossed for tries as H&B's pack turned their dominance into points. There was plenty to enjoy from the backs as well. Henry found his way over the line twice, while Zach added another with a blistering finish to continue the flow of tries.

Jude also enjoyed a productive afternoon from the tee, successfully converting three of H&B's seven tries. But perhaps the most pleasing aspect of the performance was that it wasn't simply about the points scored.

Hastings & Bexhill worked hard without the ball and refused to give Heathfield an easy route back into the contest. Keeping the opposition scoreless requires concentration and commitment across the entire side, and the boys maintained those standards throughout the match.

It was a physical encounter and credit must also go to the referee for managing a hard-fought game.

The H&B players can be proud of the way they conducted themselves. They played hard and competitively while continuing to show respect for the official and his decisions — an important part of the values of rugby at every level.

Referees give their own time and effort to allow our players to take to the field each weekend, and respecting their decisions — particularly when matches become competitive — remains fundamental to the game.

For Hastings & Bexhill, this was an excellent way to begin the new campaign. Seven tries, contributions from across the team and a clean sheet provided plenty of positives, but this is only the beginning. The challenge now is to carry those standards, work rate and team spirit into the league fixtures ahead.
