Hastings & Bexhill U12s produced an encouraging performance at home against Haywards Heath U12s, showing clear progress in their passing, positioning and support play despite eventually going down 40–20 on a wet afternoon.
The positive attitude was evident before a ball had even been kicked, with plenty of noise coming from the H&B changing room before the match. That energy and morale remained throughout the game and, importantly, continued right through to the final whistle.

Improved Support Brings Rewards
H&B showed noticeable improvement in their ability to move the ball and support their line-breakers, resulting in some excellent attacking rugby.
One of the standout scores began with Boston breaking through the defence before the move developed into a maul. The H&B forwards piled in, with Callum leading the drive, and powered their way over the line for a superb collective try.
Jesse and Jett were also prominent throughout, producing a series of strong carries and giving H&B valuable go-forward ball.
There was plenty to enjoy in the wider channels too.
Arthur and Sam both produced excellent individual scores, each using footwork and determination to complete long-distance, mazy runs to the try line.
Perhaps the most satisfying score of the afternoon, however, was a genuine team effort.
H&B moved the ball through the hands and down the line before debutant Jack provided the strong finish to complete the move and score on his first appearance for the club.
His overall performance also earned him Player of the Match on debut.
Clear Progress – and More to Work On
While the result went Haywards Heath’s way, there were plenty of signs that the U12s are moving in the right direction.
Passing and positional play improved, while the support arriving around players who broke the defensive line was noticeably better.
There are still areas to develop. H&B will continue working on their effectiveness at the ruck, handling under pressure and keeping cooler heads in possession, particularly when attacking opportunities present themselves.
But four tries, improved team play and excellent morale throughout a difficult, wet away fixture gave the coaches plenty of positives to take back to training.
