H&B Minis make waves at Crowborough Festival

H&B Minis make waves at Crowborough Festival

Michael Esdaile-Stringer19 Apr - 17:26

A hard day in the hot sun with hard ground and uphill runs - but a brilliant day all round for all age groups!

Under 7's
H&B U7's were on top form today, demonstrating growth and development in abundance, fielding 3 full teams at the Crowborough Festival!

Every player carried the ball with pace, passing with accuracy and defending gaining tags galore. A pleasure to watch with every individual making their family and coaches very proud. Specials shout out to Reuben and Colby who played in their first ever festival.

Under 8's
Under 8's enjoyed their 5 games at Crowborough Festival. Under 8's led the way at the festival this week, their first game was a close one but the teams soon warmed up.

Passing was exceptional this week and something to be proud of and continue to develop. Turnovers were exciting to watch. Of note was Lex winning payer of the festival for his great runs and tagging.

Also Ruben (AKA Scoobs) who also checked in on another player who had tripped, this is what we love to see, supporting each other, even if its the opposition, is something our H&B Under 8s are good at. We are very much looking forward to our last festival of tags next week at Uckfield!

Under 9's
Our H&B Under 9's exploded into the Crowborough Festival with three full teams this weekend. With the sun shining hot, the ground hard and the pitches at full size we knew today would require full effort from everyone involved.

All three teams started the day well with big tackles, decisive runs and some exceptional team play, taking the ball into contact to draw in players before offloading before the 'tackle' was called. We had turnovers plenty with forced errors and hitting tackle limits.

Defensively some of our teams grew weary and let a few players slip past us, but when we regained possession we were unstoppable. With big runs, excellent offloads and the teamwork something to be admired.

Special mentions, although we could think of one for every player, have to go to Toby for his non-stop powerhouse tackles all day long, Enzo for his speed, Tom for his new tackling skills and to Emily for her big drives and turnovers acquired. We are also super proud of multiple players including Fin, Jasper E-S, Dylan, Ellie, Isobel, Ellie and Rafe for showing true TREDS mindset and checking in multiple injured players throughout the day.

All in, a thoroughly enjoyable day had by all and we are looking forward to representing again next week at Uckfield. Good luck to Ellie, Isobel and Emily who are off to a girls only training session with the Trailfinders at Twickenham - you'll all be missed but what an opportunity to represent!

Under 10's
H&B Under 10's played some wonderful rugby at the Crowborough Festival this week. With the sun shining and the ground unyielding, running rugby was the order of the day!

First up was a game against Worthing. On a steep pitch the team fought hard playing uphill in the first half before unleashing the best period of passing play we've had the pleasure to see this season, downhill in the second half - scoring several tries with clever dynamic rugby.

Those weeks of training on the astro at Claremont Prep School, focusing on passing and movement continued to reap dividends throughout the festival, with several more periods of excellent free-flowing play.

A special mention is surely due for Hallie, who continues to grow into the complete player - utterly fearless in defence and devastating in attack. As ever, the squad all impressed us with their hard work and great spirit. Onward and upwards to the season finale at Uckfield!
