Outcasts compliment our young team

Trys - Pearce
Pens - Foord
The team made the long trip to Chichester for the final game of the season in high spirits. Having achieved their primary goal of securing promotion to Sussex 2, yesterday's match was approached as an opportunity to add the icing to the cake of what has been an amazing season.
Having played in two very close matches against the Outcasts earlier in the season just edging them on both occassions the lads knew it was going to be a tough physical contest. As the teams lined up it appeared that it was going to be a case of youth vs experience with 8 of the H&B squad 20 or younger.
The first 5 minutes saw an even contest with both teams setting out their stall for how they wanted to play. H&B were trying to go through phases before going out wide while The Outcasts were playing their fast paced offloading game.
The Outcasts were the first to score breaking the line following a turn over and running at a scattered defensive line. H&B answered with a penalty from Foord after a big Outcasts player was sin binned for not wrappng his arms whilst tackling Surridge.
The half finished with 2 more trys for the Outcasts leaving the HT score at 15-3. H&B played well at times but couldn't cope with the oppositions big ball carriers breaking the line and repeatedly managing to offload the ball.
Unfortunately despite H&B putting up a good fight the Outcasts continued to play some superb offloading rugby usually as a result of a turnover or broken play and ran in a few more trys.
With 20 minutes to go both teams went down to 14 after Pillow received a yellow card for blocking an Outcasts player and the Outcasts player receiving a red for throwing a punch.
H&B picked up a consolation try as Pearce charged down the wing to touch down in the corner. FT 8-48
It wasn't the finish we wanted for the season but the lads were still in good spirits after the game and especially on the coach back and celebrated what has been a truly exceptional season for this group of players. I also received a message from the Outcasts this morning who made a point of how very impressed they were with the young talent we have at our disposal. I'm sure we will see a number of this team appearing in the 1s over the next few years.
On a personal note as my last game as 2s captain I would just like to say a massive thank you to all the players who have played for the 2s in the last 3 years. We have continually improved as a squad year on year and that is down to players and their hard work. It's been a pleasure lads and hopefully I can still get into the 2s next year and continue to play alongside you.
