Match Report by Chris Pillow

H&B2s 14 -35 Worthing 4s

The lads arrived at Parker to find the opposition already arrived changed and heading out on to the pitch to warm up with a large squad and a number of support staff. It seemed strange that a club's 4th team would have such resources.

The match started with H&B kicking off towards the clubhouse and within two minutes we had won the ball back at a scrum and scored via some nice running and offloading from Foster and Field with Field going over and Foster converting.

This early score we hoped would settle the team against what was a considerably improved Worthing side from the one we played earlier in the season with a number of new players turning our for their 4s.

Unfortunately Worthing came back with a score of their own shortly after which was also converted.

The H&B pack struggled to deal with the technically gifted scrum finding themselves on the back foot more than they have done all season.

Worthing picked up another converted try before the break but this was answered with a fantastic interception from Baker on the halfway line to score under the posts. HT 14-14

The 2nd half saw a number of changes for both teams. Worthing were bolstered by an experienced bench and it seemed to allow them to move up through the gears. Coupled with this H&B tried to force things too much and moves and phases consistently broke down just at the stage where it looked like an opportunity was on.

Worthing ran in 3 more converted tries to make the final score 35-14.

The lads were naturally gutted by the result but hopefully it will serve to refocus our efforts for the rest of the season and still challenge for honours come April. The lads have agreed to draw a line under yesterday and turn their full focus to Brighton Outcasts away next Saturday.

We wish the new look Worthing 4s all the best for the rest of the season and hopefully their new found form will cause a few upsets along the way against some of the teams at the top end of the table.
