After Christmas break, Hastings and Bexhill had the opportunity to host Eastbourne for a League Game.
H&B and Eastbourne were both full of youth and energy, coming out strong and defending well. The 1st try of the game went to Eastbourne but H&B weren’t going to let that dampen their spirits by scoring the 2nd try of the game within minutes. The 1st try for H&B scored by Charlie Malton.

After a good run from Charlie and Sid Woodhead, they assisted Spike Wilkinson in scoring the 2nd try for H&B.

Eastbourne were soon back on the attack and into their flow and fought their way through some tough defence, resulting in their 2nd try, Eastbourne scored another try almost immediately, taking them into the lead.

The 3rd H&B try was scored by Ashton Wright and then the 4th from Charlie Malton.

Within the opening minutes of the second half, H&B had scored again with a try from Riley Winn. H&B were looking to be fully in control but Eastbourne scored their next try bringing the score nearly even.

Eastbourne unfortunately lost a player to injury and in true sportsmanship H&B subbed Hugo Bottini to step in allowing the game to continue.

The 6th try for H&B was scored by Sid Woodhead. A quick turnover with the 7th and 8th try for H&B scored by Spike & Riley in quick succession. Ashton added to his tally with a hat trick and the 9th try for H&B. There was a flow to H&B play now & the pace was causing problems for Eastbourne with the 10th try for H&B coming from Albert Saynor, in his first game for the club after joining only a couple weeks ago!

Eastbourne dug deep and didn’t disappoint, resulting in scoring their 5th try of the game, followed by a lightening run from Spike Wilkinson. Making it H&B’s 11th try.

With minutes to spare Eastbourne scored their last try making the final score 55 – 35. A really excellent game against quality opposition that will stand H&B in good stead for future encounters.
