Hastings 2nd XV too strong for Eastbourne

First of all huge thank you to everyone that turned out yesterday. The numbers were incredible. This has started our season off in great fashion. With a solid victory against a solid opponent.

Eastbourne's request to play quarters turned out to work more in Hastings favour. After a strong start to the game with forwards playing a well structured game and securing good ball for the backs, we were able to take a 14-0 lead in the first quarter.

The Second quarter saw a bit of a break in our momentum with numerous changes being made within 25 man squad with the attacking side of our game struggling to continue in the same way it did within the first quarter with our try coming from an interception. However our defence remained strong and it took some good phases from Eastbourne creating quick ball and creating an overlap to score out wide. The second quarter finished 19-7.

The break allowed Hastings to reorganise both in attack and defence with another try being scored to take the score to 26-7. Despite Eastbourne continuing to move the ball and work the Hastings defensive line the superior fitness levels of the Hastings team allowed the team to manage everything that was thrown at them .

With the final quarter underway the Hastings team took advantage of the tiring Eastbourne team as Hastings ran another 3x tries in finishing the game with a promising 45-7 victory.

Second XV captain Tom Jones was hugely impressed with the defensive shift from everyone and keeping the intensity for the whole game despite our lead through out.

Tries: Jake Begg (2) Russel Reid (1) Tom Jones (4)

Cons : Tom Jones (5)

Next week sees the visit of Rye 1st XV to Hastings to give another test to this developing squad with the league starting on 21st September.
